About This Course

During these courses students will start by making a jigsaw ornament utilising the scroll saw to develop an understanding of wood. A  simple frame, follows this, as an introduction joint construction. This is followed by the making of a small box using traditional woodworking methods.
Although these Woodwork for beginners courses are aimed primarily at those with little or no experience of woodwork they have also proved popular with some who have experience of DIY and want to learn a more formal way of working. At every opportunity the students are shown how woodworking tools and processes could be useful and used away from the MSW, whilst emphasising the proper use of facilities in the workshop.
Many of the students who started on this course have moved on to the Intermediate course and through to the Woodwork Club, attending the MSW for a number of years.
