WHAT WE ACTUALLY DO
The Multi-Skills Workshop offers practical courses and workshop facilities.
The workshop in Polegate is set up as a multi-material facility, offering a unique opportunity to work with a wide variety of equipment, techniques and materials.
The MSW offers a wide variety of sessions utilising the practical workshop environment .
The MSW is available for use on an adhoc basis. Usage, charges and level of supervision will depend on the student’s experience, desires and needs.
Tuition, guidance and supervision will be given by an experienced workshop practitioner.
Future of the Workshop
The Multi-Skills Workshop has now been closed for over a year due to the relocation to smaller premises followed by the Covid 19 crisis. In February the workshop was gradually getting back into action, but the nature of the business meant that it had to close rapidly when the Covid restrictions were imposed in March. Quite honestly none of us know when it will be safe and sensible to resume our previous activities, but it is hoped that some activities will be on offer in October. Ad hoc use of the workshop and one to one sessions should be available by arrangement at that time. No formal courses are on offer at this stage but do get in touch if you would like to visit the workshop or book a sessions.
ABOUT MULTI SKILLS WORKSHOP
Practical courses and workshop facilities for everyone.
To encourage the local community to take part in the practical activities of “making”, and so help people develop practical awareness and skills which will enhance their lives.
Developed around the original concept of Adult Education courses where “students” of any age could sign up for evening classes utilising the facilities of schools and colleges. The MSW has taken this further by offering facilities for working with materials throughout the day, with or without supervision, in addition to the courses on offer. This concept is proving popular with students with over five hundred using the facility since it opened.
To offer the local community the use of workshop facilities, tools, equipment, and materials at a reasonable cost, and so encourage the use and development of practical skills, and by offering a variety of learning activities and support, develop confident and imaginative use of materials.
WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY
I've been using the workshop for woodwork projects for about 18 months, it has just right balance of help and assistance when you want it while letting you do you own thing.
So far I've made built in shelves and cupboards for our lounge, a monks bench and some garden gates.
The facilities are excellent with every piece of woodworking equipment you could ask for.

“Being a complete novice, the Wednesday night Woodworking Beginner’s Class suited me perfectly. Soon I was part of a small group engaged in a simple training course that familiarised us with basic tools and techniques, starting with creating a simple jigsaw, to a more involved box making project.”

“I have always liked unusual jewellery, something which makes a statement. So I was extremely interested when I saw David's course "Jewellery With A Difference" and eagerly went off to an Open Day to find out more. Creating and making my own jewellery has been most rewarding and I am definitely going to continue on the next course in September.”
"The facilities and range of equipment available for people to use either for a specific project or in the group classes are great and the flexibility of the use of the workshop and the teaching are a real bonus. For me, the Multi-Skills Workshop was a great discovery and has broadened my metal working skills.”
Absolutely love the woodwork sessions and I'm learning a whole new set of skills. Tuition is friendly and informative, David is always on hand to advise. I've completed a couple of projects I never imagined were possible - but they've turned out well! Currently working on a Christmas gift. Claire - Dec '14

What a brilliant facility. Now there are no adult education classes in East Sussex for practical skills this fills the gap. David is patient and knowledgeable and the machines and tools available are second to none. Looking forward to the New Year to do some more creating.

Good environment. Good range of kit. Good prices. And a wealth of knowledge amongst the instructors and users alike.
